Several posts ago, I was commenting on the lack of differentiation in the airline industry. Sure, times are tough, but differentiation and targeting are more critical than ever in today’s market. American Airlines®, turns out, gets it.

They decided to focus on service, and specifically, servicing their women customers. Brilliant, eh? Just this year, American Airlines was named “International Airline of the Year” at the Delivery and Logistics Association’s annual AirCargo Conference. That’s cool, because lost luggage is a true pain.

Then they took it a step further with their recently launched Women Travelers Connected—a Web site devoted to female travelers, and to supporting organizations that help empower women. It’s amazing. It seems every time I turn around, American Airlines is involved in supporting a women’s business initiative.

Specifically to travel, the site provides women with financial tips for business travel, ways to exercise during a layover, and more.

All of this great marketing to women know-how inspired us to partner with American Airlines for a special promotion! If you purchase my new book—Real You Incorporated: 8 Essentials for Women Entrepreneurs—before June 11, American Airlines will give you a coupon for 10 percent off any domestic or international flight!

Partnerships with companies who are like-minded, especially when talking about marketing to women, is the future. American Airlines gets it. Do you?

Check back next Friday for the next Real You column.
